248 | Creating Connection and Significance Through Speaking with Les Brown

Motivational Speaker, Les Brown shares with us how the road to growth and transformation requires the COURAGE to change. If you want to evoke the spirit of transformation in those whom you serve, you must also commit to catalyzing that very thing in your own life. The intention and desire to grow must be practiced, exercised and executed consistently.

Target Audience: Les motivates Entrepreneurs who wish to use Speaking as a platform for inspiration and expanding consciousness.

Passion, Fear & the Courage to Change

Creating change is not easy. We ask Les: “What are the basics when you want to change something in your life?”

Les says it requires the willingness to assess the situation and asking yourself the question: “what direction do I go in now? Is this worth the cost for me? What Sacrifice am I willing to make? If not, then what you want in your life will be sacrificed. Courage is not an act you take in absence of fear, but an action you take in spite of the fear.

The easiest thing Les admits he does now is earning the kind of living that he desires. Now, the most difficult thing he had to do was BELIEVE he COULD do it. He says, the basics are working on yourself and developing that mindset that it is possible. It is about increasing value and being unstoppable in what is being created.

Who do I need to be?

The KEY question. Les explains that you have to, to stay ahead of the game. As entrepreneurs, we must prepare ourselves for the future and the circumstance that come about. Ask yourself, “Who do I have to be to accommodate the changes that will take place.” By working on mindset and skill set, we can win in the marketplace every day!

Ask yourself what you have going for you what is working against you? What do you need to do? Les says he disciplines himself to read 3 books per month. What do you need to do to sharpen yourself? And remember, if you’re the smartest in your group, you need a new group.

Les believes that being in business is not just about making money- but leaving a legacy. Stretching yourself is about discovering how little you know. Reflect on who you are and who you need to be. What’s the story you believe about yourself?

As we live, we earn, learn and pass it on. There is no success without successors.  Power them to become a pencil in the hand of God (Mother Teresa quote)- helping people to change the planet.

What’s aching to get out?

Did you know that 87% of our self-talk is negative and undetected from our conscious minds? People must begin to ask themselves what the calling of their lives are. As much as they have chosen IT, it has also chosen THEM. Speaking is about changing consciousness!

In this episode we’ll cover:

  • Exploring who you need to be tomorrow
  • Increasing your belief in your own VALUE
  • How to focus on what you really want
  • Using courage to develop mindset and skillset
  • Committing yourself to sharpening the self

Practical and Actionable:

There’s too much information around us yet not enough insight. Les says, there’s riches in niches. When you focus on that, (the noise will always be there) you become disciplined. You have a place to stand. Don’t be a jack of all trades. Focus on the direction. Commit to that path- the one that represents your values. Noise comes on when you take your focus off your goals.

Getting someone to YES is a part of life. It might in business or in your personal life. Have you ever tried to get a 9 year old to say YES to cleaning his room? Well it takes certain skills. Our guest is Matthew Kimberley who shares insights on getting to YES in business. Matthew is a sales master and his wisdom on sales will help you grow your business.

Share the LOVE and TWEET about this episode.
Target Audience: Matthew targets lawyers, accountants, creative professionals, coaches and/or consultants. His aim is to help generate more leads, convert more paying clients and scale into effortless profitability.

A Holistic Approach

Matthew says the relationships you make with others who may or may not become your client is everything because you want to ensure people around you are talking about you in a positive way.
He claims the biggest reason people don’t sell is because they aren’t having enough sales conversations or making any sales offers. Sales conversations require instigation. A system needs to be put in place – a sort of checklist to get there without sounding like an infomercial. Like any muscle, our sales muscle needs to be strengthened. Practice IS required. Matthew calls his system “the Form.” And here it is for you…

The FORM: 16 Aspects (Highlights below! Listen in for fuller explanation)

  • The Qualification Stage: making sales offers to the right people. Those who are inappropriate are a waste of your time.
  • Control- the system
  • Likability
  • Credibility: Significance of being published; etc.
  • Be sure to create marketing that Elicits an immediate visceral yes and then provide the solution
  • Appropriate Risk Reversal

What’s the Hardest aspect of the FORM?

Matthew finds that straying away from putting the client on a pedestal is the hardest mindset for people to transform. Shifting from that mindset to the mindset that the best thing for them is YOU makes all the difference. Think about it: a dentist doesn’t ever thank YOU for coming to your appointment. You, the customer, thank him- right? As an entrepreneur you must go into conversations with that mindset.

Practical and Actionable:

Have more sales conversations. By multiplying your sales efforts you will multiply your results. Holistic the network around you. When more people who are around you say good things about you, your yeses will increase. It is then easier to: appear more credible; get more endorsements when the right people are saying positive things around you (joint venture relationships). You can proactively build your relationships if you don’t have any. Go out there and build with people who matter to your business and who can help you get things you can’t get on your own.

Today’s guest is best selling author, Russell Brunson. Russell’s mission is about helping small business entrepreneurs start and scale their online companies. His software company ClickFunnels is one of the top super affiliates in the world. Learn how Russell uses his own personality and personal stories to connect with his audience and grow his business. Find out how you can do the same.

Share the LOVE and TWEET about this episode.
Target Audience: Entrepreneurs with smaller based businesses who create a revenue of about 1-10 million dollars. They are wanting to get their message out to more people.

ClickFunnels: WHAT IS IT?

Click Funnels was created to help entrepreneurs around the world start, promote and grow their companies online. ClickFunnels is the tool that makes it all possible.

After lots and lots of trial and error Russell finally understood what worked. Authenticity and building something like ClickFunnels which was easy for any entrepreneur to use. Russell says this has made him feel his own personal Significance in the world. Security and Contribution are what get him fired up.

The Marketing Plan:

Step 1 is to focus on building a list. There are benefits you will create for the long term. Step 2 is to create consistent content that you keep sending out. Russell began sending out 1 email per month. When he shifted to sending out 2 emails for month, he more than doubled his income! Then it became 1x per week which once again, doubled his income.

One very KEY component of all this, is that his content contains within it his personality that communicates with his audience. Russell says the relationship customers have with you more important than anything else. Soon, after being encouraged by his mentor, he began sending out an email 1x per day. Although Russell was very hesitant and scared that people might get annoyed at first, he took a leap of faith and started doing it.

More and more, Russell revealed his authenticity. He now shares many small pieces of his life and has developed a more personal relationship with his audience. He made the shift from being totally corporate emails to more personal. This means, he doesn’t always talk about his products or what he is selling. This totally changed focus of the business.

Russell says to go out there and create your own attractive character. For example, when Russell decided to share his own personal story about getting pregnant, he attracted a wider range of people. So now he shares pieces of his life which inevitably relate to different types of people. Share the parts about you you may be nervous or afraid to. When you do, people will respond.

SO, Why ClickFunnels?

Russell’s mission in creating ClickFunnels is about creating a faster process. And it is so simple, anyone could use it independently. He now has 15,000 active members.

Practical and Actionable:

Identify your attractive characters. Who or what communicates with your audience? Learn how to communicate your stories with others. It may not be 100% relevant to what you are selling. But it’s about connecting and building your relationships.

Target Audience: John coaches top Financial Advisers

Entrepreneurs tend to be so focused on pitching. But John believes in focusing on the discovery period. This is where as an entrepreneur, you determine whether the client is a good match to your business. This can potentially lead to far greater benefits than just monetary ones.

Your Personal Story

The more focused you are on delivering your unique knowledge, your Personal Story – the more people will be able to SEE you amongst the giant sea of other entrepreneurs. Your story is the only thing that really separates you.

At John’s company, CEG, he and his team aim to match their clients with the most appropriate financial advisors. They believe that no matter what business you are in, you can start building serious wealth. It requires a positive Mindset, high drive and of course, a passion for your market. A drive to achieve maximum wealth is not about getting money. It is about much more than that: flexibility to make better choices in your business.

The opportunity to be more successful – You Must Do These 3 Things Well

  1. Nail that client experience! Deliver world class service
  2. Put systems in place to attract that steady stream of clients
  3. Focus on the numbers. It is easy to get caught up and not pay attention to the equity. You must have something you deliver to your clients that is DISTINCTIVE. Otherwise, you will lose.

MARKETING

It is imperative to build an enterprise that builds value. If you can’t deliver great client experience, don’t waste money marketing. You won’t get that word of mouth.  You want your clients to share their great experience. This is about helping a client get the results they want.

Practical and Actionable:

220 John Livesay

Stories have become a key part of marketing and frankly, of business growth. We remember stories. We get emotionally connected through stories. Today’s guest is John Livesay who helps entrepreneurs tell their stories. Most if his experience is through raising money for start-ups, but don’t discount the core elements of storytelling even if you aren’t raising money.

Target Audience: John targets Tech CEOs because they are left brained. These types tend to have trouble selling because imagination, storytelling & thus marketing and selling happen on the right side of the brain. John helps them make their marketing system compelling and inspiring so that people can join your team.

Share the LOVE and TWEET about this episode.

What Will People Remember About You?

People remember your stories not your numbers. According to John, good stories have these parts:

  • EXPOSITION- to paint a picture
  • PROBLEM- what you learned
  • TYPE OF OUTCOME- inspirational part

Practice Practice Practice…

When you’re telling your story, you simply can’t wing it. You must practice because that will give you CONFIDENCE which ultimately sells your story. Be a co-pilot with the person you are speaking with. Outline the milestones of where you are taking people on your story. Make sure you have something you’ve overcome in your story. Remember that the human mind CRAVES suspense. Plus, it shows you have tenacity and grit.

ALSO – don’t try to be perfect- nobody can relate to that. Be a progressionist. How did this story help you progress?

How Long Should My Story Be?

Your opening story= 90 seconds. Grab their focus so they are willing to hear the rest. Have a good closing. Otherwise, people won’t remember it.

DONT’S

Don’t end with question! Why? Because the confused mind always says no. BE relatable. Don’t express terms people may not understand. Don’t say “there’s no competition.”

Mindset Elements to a Story:

How you think is what impresses investors. It is a powerful way to look at business even if you are not ‘selling.’ This is about Confidence (not arrogance); A story that is inspirational; & a Closing – where you land the plane. Create a SPECIFIC asking. Be EXACT- especially be exact with WHO you are asking. BE YOURSELF TO BE AN AUTHENTIC STORY TELLER.

Practical and Actionable:

Work on your CONFIDENCE- 1) get your butterflies in stomach to fly in formation. Dont ignore the nerves. Use the nervous energy to work for you rather than keeping it in. Don’t worry about what people think about you. Shift your focus on how you can serve. Write about 4 or 5 moments of certainty in your life. How did you feel? Look at that list anytime you need to shift yourself.

2) Stand for 2 minutes like superman or superwoman to decrease cortisol and increase testosterone. Focus on this before you pitch.  220 John Livesay SM

206-Bob DunhamLeadership is a concept that people can easily spout off a definition. The interesting thing is all those definitions will seem right yet incomplete. Leadership is not so easy to describe. Today I unpack the meaning of “leadership” with Bob Dunham who is the founder of Institute of Generative Leadership. Learn how to get leaders to generate commitments for results that matter.

Target Audience: Bob serves individuals in Leadership roles.

Bob is a man who’s been asking the question what is leadership? How do you do it and how do you connect it to really taking care of people? This is in contrast to becoming a slave to some kind of model. Being a leader is about the production of results.

Bob  thinks we need to come back to the core and the foundations of being human in order to if understand leadership and really make a difference in the world.

If we don’t know what leadership is, how can we do it well?

Unpacking the Myths:

  • “Leadership is about being in control”
  • “Leadership is about giving orders”
  • “Leadership is about knowing the most”

Leadership is about having followers! These are individuals who are with you to produce an agreed upon outcome.

What makes a Good Leader?

They declare a future that others commit to. Leaders coordinate action into realization. So what is the shared commitment you have with others? That’s the foundation which is rooted in relationships.

What is Generative leadership?

This is about taking ACTION. The model and understanding is not enough. It’s a performance art. leadership is about how we face the unknown facing fear – how to create when no one has the answer.

What is ACTION?

There’s Commitment and then there’s Compliance. Compliance doesn’t hold the potential for a whole lot  of energy.  OWNERSHIP on their hand, is energized because you automatically have CARE in the mix which produces  Value and Satisfaction to those you serve.

Care comes up in the Conversations we have. All action comes from conversations. What conversations are you not having?  This is about emotionally connecting with people too. Are you producing trust or fear? This is what generates the results.

Uncovering the Big Question "what is leadership?" Bob DunhamIn this episode we’ll cover:

Commitment vs. Compliance

What Leadership truly means

Myths about Leadership

What Generative Leadership is

203 | Being a Courageous Leader with Darryl Lyons

Powered by the Simple Podcast Press Player

203smEvery CEO faces challenges and has to make decisions for the company. It takes courage to be a strong leader who makes hard decisions and continues to lead by those decisions. Darryl Lyons, CEO of PAX Financial Group, shares some about his journey as a leader of his teams. Darryl gives you a few practical tips to guiding and leading in today’s world.

Share the LOVE and TWEET about this episode.

Target Audience: Darryl co founded and is the CEO of the group called Pax Financial Group in San Antonio Texas. The group is currently comprised of 18 employees. Their mission is to serve small business owners facing anxiety and overwhelm.

The Pax Financial Group is one of the best places to work in the city according to the San Antonio Business Journal. It is also one of the fastest-growing companies in the city. There are only 18 employees because Darryl has figured out a way to effectively use systems, processes and technology to do a lot of the heavy lifting.

What did you have to let go of to get to where you are?

Darryl figured out that he had to evolve from being a technician to serving individual clients and ultimately to becoming a leader of the organization. Darryl believes it is not his sole responsibility to lead his company, but the collective’s responsibility.

Creating a strong foundation and meaningful principles

The Pax Financial Group has a total of 42 agreed upon values. His employees also resonate with these same values (very important in any business- whether large or small). Team members are asked to keep in line with their favorites and everyone gets the opportunity to take ownership. Additionally, Darryl created a system where team members are responsible for writing down the 6 most important things they must do the following day. Thus, the first thing they do the next day are tackle those things.

This is more about tackling “Goal achieving” rather than “stress relieving” tasks. This is helpful for everyone because they belt it out on paper and can go home with a clear mind.

Why does this work?

When you have certain systems and processes in place, people can trust each other. It also builds a sense of professionalism.

What about so called “overwhelm”?

According to Darryl, it’s not that you’re overwhelmed, you just don’t have a priority system. When you have your system, you just do the next thing. When you don’t have a system to organize your mind, you get overwhelmed.

Why did this Small Business Big Pressure have to be written?

People noticed what Pax Financial Group was up and started asking questions about systems, marketing, cash flow, etc. Darryl knew there was a need for this and taught free 2-hour workshops. The questions kept flooding in from sharp, successful people. Drawing from that, Darryl could tell that peer to peer leadership was lacking.

Common mistakes Small Business Owners Make…

Darryl has seen that people are imbalanced when it comes to utilizing the left brain and right brain. Even the successful and smart entrepreneurs need to lean on the left side a little bit more and just think through their cash flow on a regular basis. This requires checking on it and taking an active role in managing it. Often times, small business owners will delegate this to their employees and become disconnected from it.

On Having A Coach

Darryl admits that It feels good to walk with someone. Being an entrepreneur – having a coach is so beneficial because it lessens anxiety and gives you the opportunity to unpack.

203-Darryl LyonsIn this episode we’ll cover:

  • Goal Achieving vs. Stress Relieving
  • Why you feel overwhelmed
  • How to create systems to cure overwhelm
  • Creating an office culture that benefits all
  • Common mistakes small biz owners make

Practical and Actionable:

In summary, Darryl believes that giving hope, being authentic and creating an energy in the office which celebrate people’s faith is key. “Measure, monitor and celebrate.”

Listen to the Episode Below
Powered by the Simple Podcast Press Player

194smLeading the leaders in your organization is your primary responsibility. If you are a CEO, President, Founder or similar, you are charged with activating the leaders inside your organization. Our guest is Eric Holtzclaw, strategist and coach to organizations with $1m-$10m in revenues. He share insights about leadership so that you can lead your teams to higher levels.

Share the LOVE and TWEET about this episode.

Target Audience: Eric serves companies that are “broken” or not scaling the way they want. Specifically, he works with those creating 1-2 million in revenue who are high tech service businesses.

How to structure a team according to Eric

Eric acknowledges many leaders have the thought that they can change the people on their team. However, when you’re structuring your team, what it really is about is identifying what they are good at and giving them a position that is going to play to those strings. Who they are what what they do at thc core doesn’t really change. And, their strengths must also compliment the rest of the team.

Hire someone who will take responsibility

You want people around you who look at things differently. People who take on a task without you having to ask them. Remember, it is very unlikely that anyone will ever love your business the way you do. However, there is a fine line and they need to be willing to step up. At the same time, also remember that they probably won’t do things the way you do them. Thus, it’s also about giving up control.

A Quick Lightning Round!!

Eric what are your thoughts on…
Hiring? Eric is always hiring. He uses networking to add to his team
Boarding? Eric believes shadowing works but is not always possible in every situation.
Leading? Eric says this can only be done by example. Stay authentic and empathetic.
Empowerment? This is an area where leaders could potentially make the biggest mistake. Be sure to EMPOWER your people.

194In this episode we’ll cover:

  • Why you can’t change people, so why try?
  • How to use your team’s strengths to your advantage
  • How to EMPOWER your team
  • How to give up the need to control
  • Where leaders make the biggest mistakes!

Practical and Actionable:

My mindset is “Present-future.” Meaning, I think to myself, “what can i do today to make tomorrow better?” Try it!

186 | The Key Elements of Growing Fast with Kimra Luna

Listen to the Episode Below (00:22:16)

Building a business fast is likely your goal. You can take your time, but fast movers tend to learn the lessons and grab the mind share of the market. Today we discuss the key elements of a fast growing brand. Our guest is Kimra Luna. Kimra built a business by being authentic and adding value to her people. Kimra’s success goes beyond money (she did that too), but it is even a bigger deal to grow a thriving community of 20,000 people that just love her. Find out the secrets in today’s interview.

Share the LOVE and TWEET about this episode.

Target Audience: Kimra is a personal branding and social media strategist serving business owners wanting to take their business to the next level. Kimra targets entrepreneurs looking to not only make consistent income but income that keeps growing throughout the years of running their business.

Kimra started out as a humble blogger. She once had the opportunity to do a webinar and discovered she loved teaching. This catalyzed her into creating her brand Be True Be You http://kimraluna.com/. In just 18 months, she generated 1 million in sales from her programs.

According to Kimra, Branding is about a feeling people get when interacting with you and what you offer. Her intention through her brand and business was to create connectedness and support. And this is exactly how she was able to build a Facebook Group (Freedom Hackers Mastermind) with 18,000 people in it. Kimra’s philosophy is to keep serving people until they become your customers.

Remember that the *feelings* your brand evokes matter the most. This is what leads to RAVING fans. While Kimra did utilize some paid marketing in the beginning to get the ball rolling, she primarily just spends time in her community helping people. Those people then share who she is.

Ya Got to Have Some PERSONALITY…

With any business you must be willing to show who you are: Your personality. People want to see authenticity. It’s about trust. We’ve been manipulated with marketing for so long that we ignore it. This way of marketing is outdated and no longer works. By spending time interacting with her community, Kimra is able to identify how she can best serve them. This is how to truly CARE for your audience.

Social Media is a form of listening. It’s really easy to listen to our audiences now because we can simply just read what people are thinking. Kimra places relevant feedback in a google document to gain a deeper understanding of what people need.

186smIn this episode we’ll cover:

  • How to create a thriving business super fast
  • How to create Community on Social Media
  • Why the life of an entrepreneur is never SOLO!
  • Why paid marketing comes second to Authentic human connection
  • How to understand what your audience needs through social media

Practical and Actionable:

Share the LOVE and TWEET about this episode.

Target Audience: Speakers, coaches, consultants and those wanting to be better performers both on the stage and off.

Public speaking and performing considers the following to be a “Performance” (it’s not just speeches!)

  • job interview
  • negotiation
  • sales meeting
  • skype call

The Fear & the Worry of Speaking…

Your Mindset= you must see yourself as a performer. Michael Port says, “You have a desire to make an impact and on the other hand, you have the desire not to be ridiculed, made fun of or rejected. But those 2 desires cancel each other out/get in the way. So if you want to go out there and do big things, people may laugh at you from time to time (I get negative reviews on my books). Fortunately, there are more people who say they like what I do. But there’s no way i can reach those people unless i was willing to be fully self expressed. If you’re willing to be fully self expressed, you begin to silence the critics and crush your fears…”

There are 2 types of critics:

Those in their seats &….
YOURSELF.

The way we see ourselves influences the choices we make! if we have the courage to be ourselves we can truly shine. being liked vs. creating real impact. we must decide whether we want results or approval.

Elements to Speaking (avoid just highlighting rewards because it seems out of reach)

  • BIG IDEA
  • Promise (big idea supports the promise)
  • You understand the way the world looks to them
  • Provide Steps & Systems

176smIn this episode we’ll cover:

  • Why you’ve got to find the courage within to be fully expressed
  • How you perceive yourself is EVERYTHING
  • How to be a better performer on stage and off stage
  • The 9 quick fire tips to use when working on your speech.
  • The MAIN Elements you need for Speaking (forget the fluff)

Practical and Actionable:

Here are the 9 Quick Fire Tips from Michael Port you can start implementing now…

1. The Opening – cut the filler words and phrases, “Hey I just flew in from…”; get right to it instead of putting in unnecessary words to get the audience engaged

2. The Closing – make it powerful, yet it doesn’t have to be filled with fireworks; ensure the audience has taken the big idea of the speech and never do anything after the applause

3. Emotional Connection – really the most important thing is connecting at an emotional level with the audience; you might think your “how to” speech doesn’t need emotional elements, yet if you want your audience to connect to you after the speech, you want to connection with their emotions.

4. Emotional Contrast – any speech that is just one note is boring; great speeches have contrast in content, structure and emotions; move from sad to funny to engage the audience; this keeps them on the edge of their seats in a good way

5. Eye Contact – don’t stare too long to make someone uncomfortable; scan the room and look at people to draw them into the moment (Remember: Don’t picture the audience naked either.)

6. Movement – use the whole stage to connect with the audience using your movements; don’t wander or look down as these cause the audience to disengage and question your influence

7. Slides – it is never a question of using slides or NOT using slides; the issue is how you use them to support your message; Seth Godin is a master at using slides and can use 150 slides in a single presentation; use slides to write your speech first and create slides to support your message (most people want to write slides then write the speech; this places the slides in the performer’s seat instead of you).

8. Audience Interaction – must be in proportion to the amount of trust you have developed with the audience; opening with a question that is too invasive will cause you to lose the audience; by the end of the presentation, you have built more trust and you can ask more of the audience

9. Practice – Michael believes that you must practice your speech. OK, this is not news to you. However, are you practicing with the awareness of the above tips? In Steal the Show, Michael gives insights to better practice techniques that will make you more prepared for your performance on stage.
