Christine Hassler, author of the book Expectation Hangover gets vulnerable about how she found true happiness. In using the experience of a crisis, she found the excuse to go through a soul transformation. Now she helps others do the same! On this episode, we talk about how the way to do truly impactful work is by answering our own inner calling. It is about understanding that the answers cannot be found anywhere outside of ourselves.

Target Audience: Christine travels the globe hosting retreats and speaks at events. She helps people answer the vital questions of: Who am I? What do I want? How do I get it? And What’s the impact I want to make?

After a quarter life crisis and several personal and professional losses, Christine decided to reorient her life. She realized she had been seeking happiness outside herself. Yet, she finally understood happiness could only be found from within. This understanding totally flipped her orientation and perspective on life.

Expectation Hangover (Christine’s published book)

What was aching inside that made the book happen? Christine shares that the stream of crises provided a huge window of opportunity for transformation to occur. It’s what Christine calls the “Expectation hangover.” We want to get out of the feeling of pain, disappointment as quickly as possible. Some of us see it as an opportunity for healing. It is a chance to get out of destructive cycles you may be repeating.

When it comes to heartache, (in business or personal) ‘quick fixes’ don’t really cut it. This, Christine wanted to create a holistic and comprehensive book that serves as a treatment plan to help people heal from some of their deepest pains.

On a soul level, it is important to feel in touch with our gifts, like we are leaving behind a legacy. At the core, each of us wants to create something that is meaningful. The hard part is that we are wired and taught how to achieve success externally and logistically. We are not taught to know what success really feels like on an internal level. We’re not taught how to look at our own shadows.

To do impactful work, we have to be clear. We need a solid foundation. It is easy to build a business that makes money but not as easy to build something truly connected to who we are on the soul level.

Sometimes we need an expectation hangover to get ourselves in gear. But sometimes we are afraid of making the changes because of the unknown future. And then, the universe might bring us that expectation hangover because something needed to change. All in all, we are the ones who manifest the changes in our lives.

Activating People to Move Forward with More Clarity

What Christine first does to help her clients is identify their compensatory strategy. As babies we were totally whole. Then life events caused us to have these compensatory strategies in attempts to feel that wholeness again. For example becoming a people pleaser or an over achiever are 2 examples of a compensatory strategy. The motivation stems from a place of lack. This way of living is unsustainable if true happiness and fulfillment is what one seeks.

What is motivating your success, truly? Does it stem from some pain? Shift to the possibility of what you could create based on INSPIRATION rather than MOTIVATION. That changes the context of what SUCCESS really means!

What’s the difference between INSPIRATION VS. MOTIVATION

Motivation- IS a drive and a push. Often people are hard on themselves and they don’t even realize it. Pressure- very heady and stems from an external rather than internal.

Inspiration – is about feeling. It is an inner CALLING. There are feelings of excitement, enthusiasm and resonance with who you are. Inspiration comes from vision and moves us forward. It has a much lighter quality while also having momentum.

In this episode we’ll cover:

  • Seeking happiness from within
  • Using crisis for transformation
  • How to do impactful work
  • Answering our Souls’ inner calling
  • INSPIRATION VS. MOTIVATION

Practical and Actionable:

Get out a piece of paper. Mark it 1-5
Write down your top 5 core values. Most can’t do it. Or perhaps they haven’t given it a lot of thought. Our values are our compass. That’s how we know what we are inspired by. Before making decisions, check in to see if the decision lines up with those values. Write down your vision. Use your imagination productively. Rather than worry, create a positive vision. Write it, see it, feel it every day. Let your vision be your gas to pull you forward.

You have heard it before and you will hear it again. Mindset is the foundation of success. As an entrepreneur, mindset is so critically important that if you lack the primary drivers of value creation and growth thinking, you will limit your overall success. Dan Sullivan with Strategic Coach shares a deep look through the entrepreneurial mindset via an exercise to unlock new opportunities. Mindset truly is the foundation of growth, creativity and value creation.

Target Audience: Dan’s programs serve entrepreneurs seeking to strategize their business plan.

Dan set out to be a coach back in 1971 when the everyday “Joe” had not a clue about what a coach might do. He claims that 1980 was a breakthrough year for him because the personal computer came about. For Dan, this was what truly marked the beginning of the entrepreneurial age.

Entrepreneurs by their very nature seek freedom and possess an unusual degree of self reliance and resilience in the face of unpredictability. Dan admits there is a price you pay when you’re out there on your own: you lose feedback. It’s hard to ask yourself questions. So a coach is extraordinarily useful in this respect for those on the entrepreneurial journey.

Choosing Your Ideal Clients

It’s natural for many entrepreneurs who first start out to be too flexible about who they take on as clients. However, Dan encourages us to choose those who will have a productive relationship with you.

Here is the PROCESS you can do to get Clarity

Choose your 3 best clients – the 3 best relationships you have (or have had)
Then- what was their mindset – their qualities- what makes it easy and rewarding to work with them?

Boil it down to 8 MINDSETS. There will be an energy shift in doing this process

For example Dan’s 8 Mindsets are:

  1. Ambition
  2. Always growing
  3. Risk taking
  4. Willing to change for something better
  5. They are Team players
  6. Total perseverance
  7. Constant Tester (you don’t fall in love with your ideas before the market does)
  8. Reciprocity – the natural feeling if someone does something for you, you do the same

This has been tested over 22 years and it always works! These are his set of rules – what are yours?

Dan says, you suddenly develop a consciousness as you meet people. They are like SENSORS! You can tell by a conversation whether it’s a go or no go.

Ryan was actually a client of Gene’s. He admits it was big decision to invest in someone he never actually met before. Ryan got to Gene through this very podcast and after some deep conversation felt very comfortable in making a financial investment to collaborate with Gene for his business.

Gene’s program allowed Ryan to create the foundational elements of building a business. It helped him to realize that debt is an all consuming element in anyone’s life. As a solution to this problem, he decided to create some courses on getting out of debt. The outcome was tremendous and he received highly positive feedback and success stories. The initial experience provided Ryan the confidence and knowing that he could give value in a different way.

This wasn’t easy, as many fears must be overcome. One being, getting over the fear of contacting people he knew. It also prompted him to use social media and a sending out a consistent newsletter. He took the courageous step of producing and sharing original content which is something the majority of brokers don’t do. For Ryan, this was about mustering up the courage to do things differently than others in his field.

The key to all this is RESILIENCE. Ryan says, if you want to achieve your goals, you must work through fears and get up every morning and just grind.

184smIn this episode we’ll cover:

  • Why Ryan invested in a coach
  • Overcoming fears & getting to the next level
  • Why you’ve got to do things differently

Target Audience: Marc is a Coach who coaches coaches. His aim is to guide coaches into building stronger businesses. Specifically, he works with people newer coaches in their first or second years.

Why did Marc choose Coaches as a NICHE?

Like many entrepreneurs, Marc started out of focus (no niche) and targeted all entrepreneurs. After a while however, something resonated with him about coaches because he truly understood their struggle on a deeper level (since he was himself, a coach). He decided to focus on that market and dedicated himself to getting really good at servicing that market.

The NICHE

According to Marc, people are afraid to niche because they fear leaving clients off the table. However, in the process of trying to work with everybody you end up working with NOBODY. You’re left wondering why your roster is so low and your wallet is empty.

SEIZE Your Niche

In guiding coaches to hone in on their specific niche, Marc has developed a process to define it for yourself. He states that you must validate the niche by know what’s going on. This includes researching the niche well. Facebook groups actually help to validate the niche. This will also direct your social media strategy. Pay attention on what is being said on the discovery calls. Be sure to talk to people in that market in general. And lastly, ensure there aren’t too many people out there doing what you want to do.

Remember to have a personal motivation when choosing a niche. Steer away from distracting yourself with new things you need to learn. Rather, refine, focus and expand on what you are already good at.

What are the fears when it comes to NICHING?

Marc often sees coaches leaning towards doing it like the others. Yet, that is precisely why you should be running the other way. Do it your own way, so you may stand out in the crowd.

182smIn this episode we’ll cover:

  • Why going broader will leave you with an empty pocket
  • How to get leads that match your service
  • The process Marc uses to help his target find theirs
  • Why people are afraid to niche down
  • Why you letting go of perfectionism is essential

Practical and Actionable:

Take some time to research but don’t think too much. This shouldn’t take 6 months or a year. Don’t procrastinate. Choose something that resonates with you and that you feel good about. It’s about action. Create a good plan, but don’t be a perfectionist.
