Christine Hassler, author of the book Expectation Hangover gets vulnerable about how she found true happiness. In using the experience of a crisis, she found the excuse to go through a soul transformation. Now she helps others do the same! On this episode, we talk about how the way to do truly impactful work is by answering our own inner calling. It is about understanding that the answers cannot be found anywhere outside of ourselves.

Share the LOVE and TWEET about this episode.

Target Audience: Christine travels the globe hosting retreats and speaks at events. She helps people answer the vital questions of: Who am I? What do I want? How do I get it? And What’s the impact I want to make?

After a quarter life crisis and several personal and professional losses, Christine decided to reorient her life. She realized she had been seeking happiness outside herself. Yet, she finally understood happiness could only be found from within. This understanding totally flipped her orientation and perspective on life.

Expectation Hangover (Christine’s published book)

What was aching inside that made the book happen? Christine shares that the stream of crises provided a huge window of opportunity for transformation to occur. It’s what Christine calls the “Expectation hangover.” We want to get out of the feeling of pain, disappointment as quickly as possible. Some of us see it as an opportunity for healing. It is a chance to get out of destructive cycles you may be repeating.

When it comes to heartache, (in business or personal) ‘quick fixes’ don’t really cut it. This, Christine wanted to create a holistic and comprehensive book that serves as a treatment plan to help people heal from some of their deepest pains.

On a soul level, it is important to feel in touch with our gifts, like we are leaving behind a legacy. At the core, each of us wants to create something that is meaningful. The hard part is that we are wired and taught how to achieve success externally and logistically. We are not taught to know what success really feels like on an internal level. We’re not taught how to look at our own shadows.

To do impactful work, we have to be clear. We need a solid foundation. It is easy to build a business that makes money but not as easy to build something truly connected to who we are on the soul level.

Sometimes we need an expectation hangover to get ourselves in gear. But sometimes we are afraid of making the changes because of the unknown future. And then, the universe might bring us that expectation hangover because something needed to change. All in all, we are the ones who manifest the changes in our lives.

Activating People to Move Forward with More Clarity

What Christine first does to help her clients is identify their compensatory strategy. As babies we were totally whole. Then life events caused us to have these compensatory strategies in attempts to feel that wholeness again. For example becoming a people pleaser or an over achiever are 2 examples of a compensatory strategy. The motivation stems from a place of lack. This way of living is unsustainable if true happiness and fulfillment is what one seeks.

What is motivating your success, truly? Does it stem from some pain? Shift to the possibility of what you could create based on INSPIRATION rather than MOTIVATION. That changes the context of what SUCCESS really means!

What’s the difference between INSPIRATION VS. MOTIVATION

Motivation- IS a drive and a push. Often people are hard on themselves and they don’t even realize it. Pressure- very heady and stems from an external rather than internal.

Inspiration – is about feeling. It is an inner CALLING. There are feelings of excitement, enthusiasm and resonance with who you are. Inspiration comes from vision and moves us forward. It has a much lighter quality while also having momentum.

In this episode we’ll cover:

  • Seeking happiness from within
  • Using crisis for transformation
  • How to do impactful work
  • Answering our Souls’ inner calling
  • INSPIRATION VS. MOTIVATION

Practical and Actionable:

Get out a piece of paper. Mark it 1-5
Write down your top 5 core values. Most can’t do it. Or perhaps they haven’t given it a lot of thought. Our values are our compass. That’s how we know what we are inspired by. Before making decisions, check in to see if the decision lines up with those values. Write down your vision. Use your imagination productively. Rather than worry, create a positive vision. Write it, see it, feel it every day. Let your vision be your gas to pull you forward.

Listen to the Episode Below (00:29:40)
228-daniel-battan

Our guest, Daniel Battan is the founder of “Beyond The Ceiling.” Daniel saw that the problem existent within many entrepreneurs was that they saw a “ceiling” for themselves – or in other words, a limited potential that could be reached. However, the “ceiling” is NOT the ultimate potential one can reach. There is ALWAYS more (think: “the sky”). Beyond The Ceiling is about stepping outside and realizing that there is no ceiling in your capabilities. It is unlimited! Daniel brings a very grounded approach that can be used by entrepreneurs.

Share the LOVE and TWEET about this episode.

Target Audience: Daniel serves Serial/Tech Entrepreneurs who want to become visionary leaders.

Daniel focuses on entrepreneurs. He saw an opportunity in the sector and aims to bring new standards to the entrepreneurial field. There are always skills and mindset capabilities to improve upon. However he saw that many tech entrepreneurs were missing this one key piece in their business: Growing the person who ran it the business.

New Zealand: A Place of Innovation… HOWEVER…

Daniel’s home country of New Zealand is comprised of a society that is quite self reliant being that it is geographically isolated. However- he often saw that people do not believe in ourselves and/or do not believing in other people. His mission is to build the nation’s GDP (Increase Gross Domestic Confidence). And he’s doing it one person at a time- and beginning with the entrepreneurial community.

Daniel serves entrepreneurs who are at a conundrum- they have had financial successes but are now wondering where their happiness has gone. They have lost their sense of purpose and contribution to the world. They are rich in poor ways.

Why choose Confidence for ourselves and those around us?

Because, Daniel says, it makes a better world! There is nothing worse than a life that lacks confidence. The consequence? Regret! Lots of it! With confidence you can do the things you want to do.

The Power of Personal Development is rooted in healthy self esteem. In school in and in life in general,  we’re taught that success is about the result and many people end up chasing a result. However, this is not the meaning of happiness. And without happiness, what is the significance of success?

We gain confidence from the actions we perform today. These actions should be in line with who we truly are.

Practical and Actionable:

  1. A Practical step stems from 2 things. First, the art of confidence is a mindset. It is NOT about trying to change things about yourself. Always aim to serve. Keep in mind that self doubt is not actually a problem. Don’t suddenly judge yourself for having self doubt. Rather, acknowledge it- ask yourself is it true and useful? Make a conscious choice to take action in that state. Transform the state that you notice you are coming into confidence.
  2. Know what you are doing. Master your craft. Over prepare for those moments. Know yourself so well that you are speaking from the heart.

Thinking Bigger

Listen to the Episode Below (00:28:55)

Thinking BiggerLearning to “Think Bigger” is huge part of your growth at a personal and professional level. I have pulled out the big gun for today’s episode. I am honored to interview Sean Stephenson, who stands 3 feet tall (and faced so many challenges in his life). Sean shares with us how to think bigger and not let your circumstances dictate how you dream. Thinking bigger is like a muscle that you have to use or you risk losing it.

Share the LOVE and TWEET about this episode.
Target Audience: Sean works with individuals dealing with their insecurities.

Sean uses his own story to inspire others. Sean suffers from a bone disease. He was born with osteogenesis imperfecta, and stands three feet tall, has fragile bones, and must use a wheelchair. Through the adversities he has faced, he has gained quite a unique perspective. It motivated him to seek Personal Growth which has taught him to focus on those things he does have access to. Thus, he communicates and teaches through therapeutic metaphors. He shows others how to control the mind so that it works for you and not against you. He shows others how to guide their emotions in a way that empowers them.

Thinking Bigger

INSECURITY and FEAR are directly related. It’s not about thinking of what you don’t have but pivoting your focus on what you want. It takes courage to do things that haven’t been done before.

Sean’s Dream of Becoming a Speaker

Teachers and everyone else thought he was crazy to aspire to do it. Nevertheless, he stepped into the vision when he was just a kid. Doubters, haters and cynics will always be there. Sean asks us to remember that it’s a reflection of THEM. When you realize this, their words won’t have an emotional impact on you.

Then again, there are days when they will impact you and Sean says this is a matter of your own ability to give SELF CARE. This is important every day because you want to be sure to fill up your own soul and tend to your own well being.

My Brain is No Different Than Any Other Achiever

Sean’s standards of who he is becoming are high and sometimes he feels like he is slacking. But that’s just because there’s always more to do. THERE WILL ALWAYS BE MORE TO DO. And still, his mission stands: to rid the world of insecurity. The human race is his target audience which is a very big niche! Everyone has survived things though. It is his joy and privilege to be a light for this very thing.

Gaining A New Perspective

Sean put his clients in touch with those who are experiencing a greater struggle. By linking his client with another who needs support, the client feels valuable and gains a tremendous humbling experience. It’s all about finding the blessing.

Practical and Actionable:

Identify this first:
F- stuck in the “FED”= the state of the mind swirling in fears, envies and dislikes.

THEN: Switch the focus to the gap and identify these:

Goal- what you want
Appreciation- what you have
Preference- what you like

This alone supercharges a person. No matter where they are at. Stand in the GAP. There’s always enough evidence to prove your life sucks or to prove that it’s amazing.

Target Audience: help businesses and leaders stand out and help them build deep trust

This episode is for those wanting to be a trusted advisor for their clients. You are constantly accessing the courage within, want to break away from the status quo and think differently. This takes a lot of fearlessness. You’re a Trailblazer, a rule breaker a Renegade. Doing this every day means making a decision to see the world and yourself in new ways.

Exercise! The Power of 3

Get out a pen and paper and write down 3 words you want your clients to say about you. It is helpful to you to document what you want to hear.

There’s got to be a better way…

Gene himself came to a point in his entrepreneurial journey where even though he was making money, he felt dissatisfied and unfulfilled. He was afraid of losing everything. At the same time, he wasn’t truly embodying innovation. He was trapped in his own success and he was not stretching out of that comfy comfort zone.

I lost everything ($3 million)… & I had to start over.

Bankruptcy, settlements and more. Bye bye house. Bye bye money. His confidence was compromised. Despite the losses, Gene decided to keep going.

“At the end of the day people won’t remember what you said or did, they will remember how you made them feel” ~Maya Angelou. Gene eventually understood this golden nugget within the darkness and decided he wanted to do and help others achieve that as well. It became his mission.

Breaking free of the comfort zone (3 components)

Mindset: This is about how you think about things. It’s about how you see the world and yourself. What gets in the way of this is that inner critic – that little voice inside you that tells you you’re not enough, that it is not the right time. It keeps you from investing in yourself and that is a huge problem when people are trying to break free from where they are.

Strategy: A foundational concept Gene drills into his clients is that you can’t be all things to all people. So who are you for that certain niche?

Action: Each and every day, you are presented with a ‘test.” Gene has learned that procrastination or waiting for things to be perfect prevents any action from happening. Move and do things you’ve never done before. It doesn’t matter if you’ve got the best strategies all around if you aren’t taking action.  This is what ultimately catalyzes results!

What is the one skill you need to be successful?

People are so focused on the tools and the strategies their mission. But what is actually missing is a deeper understanding of your inner game. This includes your mindset, the story that you’re living and the truth that you accept and live by. Who do you need to be for your clients to say those 3 words from that exercise we did earlier?

2 Types of Courage:

Pivotal Courage: Despite any fears or setbacks, you get back on your feet and move forward.

Silent courage: lives inside of us and we try to quiet as much as we can because we are afraid. This actually shapes more of our future than Pivotal Courage because of the daily battle with those fears and doubts. What is your habit of acknowledging your fear and moving forward anyway? “Courage is being scared but saddling up anyway” ~John Wayne

200smIn this episode we’ll cover:

  • 3 components to moving past your comfort zone
  • Uncovering your fears
  • Saddling up despite the fears
  • The 2 types of courage
  • How to create a Courage List

Practical and Actionable:

Create The Daily Courage List:

What are the things you’ve been wanting to do that you haven’t? Describe the fear you have about anything you’d like to be courageous about. Understand why you fear that. It takes courage to value our own gifts but once we do, we can move mountains.

190 | Why Putting Customers First Is Wrong with Jay Samit

190
Do you believe in putting your customers first? It is a common thought. At many levels it makes total sense. However, today’s guest is Jay Samit, author of Disrupt You!, a best selling book about innovation and growth. Jay shares insights about why this common thinking has limits as you grow your company and become a strong CEO.  Listen to this episode and “disrupt” your company.

Target Audience: Entrepreneurs who are ready and willing to embrace new ways of doing business.

Why Jay wrote Disrupt You!

Jay is a serial entrepreneur who has started business from scratch as well as taken over Fortune 500 companies. What he has learned is that you must internally disrupt your way of thinking to create the new and thus, grow your business.

Becoming Aware of Our Internalized Conditionings

Growing up, we internalize what people tell us about who we are (from their perspective). Jay says, we are as limitless as the universe! Take off the the blinders in order to see who you can be. If you want something to change, you must change what you do. Get out of your comfort zone. Constantly! Do things you’ve never done before if you want results that you’ve never had.

Putting the Customer First: Why this is Wrong

Jay says, rather than put your customers first, put your employees first. Additionally, it is important that they understand the mission and believe in the company. Most employees don’t stay at a job because of salaries. They stay because they remember what is collectively accomplished.

Are You Really Living Life Or Just Paying Bills Until You Die?

What is your purpose? The more people for whom you solve problems for, the bigger and better your business will be. All that is required is an idea and persistence. Everything else can be “hired.” If you can glow, it will attract the best and brightest people like moths. Many entrepreneurs show up putting out fires. They go about doing the same thing every day. This may have gotten you to where you are, but not to where you are going.

190smIn this episode we’ll cover:

  • Why your customers DON’T come first
  • Who you should put first in your business
  • Why we are LIMITLESS beyond measure
  • Becoming aware of our conditionings from childhood
  • Why we are actually malleable when we choose to be

Practical and Actionable:

Look from the perspective of your employees or customers and write down 3 problems they see. Do this every day for one month. You will see things you didn’t recognize as problems. And from that standpoint, you will be able to stretch and grow your business. Be sure to check out your complimentary Companions Workbook from Jay!

189 | Getting in State for Peak Performance with Ryan Walsh

Listen to the Episode Below (00:28:51)

189When you lay in bed at night after a long day, what do you think about? Are you beating yourself up over what you didn’t do? Our guest today
is Ryan Walsh. What he shares with us could make or break your business. Listen in to find out why you may want to shift your perspective on what you think you “SHOULD” be doing vs. going with what your passion and purpose is.

Share the LOVE and TWEET about this episode.

Target Audience: Ryan helps people who have businesses but want to feel like they have the power to earn more with less effort.

Common Myths that Hold Entrepreneurs Back

“Shiny Object Syndrome” Many of Ryan’s clients tend to believe they need more discipline and focus; they feel too distracted. What Ryan believes is that it doesn’t feel good to him to beat himself up. He asks, “what if you could just find your true passion and purpose and be more inspired and be naturally drawn to accomplish what you want?” Hone in on your strengths and outsource what feels like a chore to you.

What is REALLY behind people not getting their work done?

Ryan finds that people are often unclear about what they care about. We have all these conditioned ideas about what work looks like, what success looks like, or what we think needs to get done or accomplished. We end up going down these paths that don’t fire us up. Productivity is really about effectiveness. It is what you promised yourself you would do and he calls this – SELF HONESTY!

When Ryan Hit Rock Bottom

Ryan had an accident which catalyzed a range of other physical problems. What he learned in that experience was that mindset is so important. Once he transformed his mindset, the adverse physical symptoms went away. Thinking badly about what you haven’t gotten done will ultimately have a negative effect on your business, personal relationships and more. It was then he decided to allow himself to work on whatever felt like play. He started doing one thing at a time and became more present.

189smIn this episode we’ll cover:

  • Why you could outsource what feels like a chore
  • Why beating yourself up is pointless
  • Getting clear on your passion and purpose
  • How to be more present
  • The meaning of SELF-HONESTY

187 | The Entrepreneur’s Formula For Wealth with Todd Tresidder

Listen to the Episode Below (00:23:33)

187

Your habits determine your health, wealth and happiness. It is not the pivotal moments in life…it is your day-to-day choices. Todd Tresidder shares insights on creating wealth. The often talked about yet rarely carried out aspects of wealth building as a leader or CEO are the focus of this episode. Listen to Todd’s practical and actionable steps.

Share the LOVE and TWEET about this episode.

Target Audience: Todd focuses on those seeking to create an advanced retirement plan.

HABITS

According to Todd, Habits are the results of all compounds. Think of habits as daily deposits into your savings account. The easiest way to reach a goal is to structure all your habits around achieving that goal. It’s about committing to the path rather than waiting for the “perfect” time and then getting yourself into action

The Courage to stay Growth Oriented…

…Is all about ATTITUDE. Your Attitude is what dictates your growth oriented philosophy. We can grow into whatever we choose to become.

Action & Strategy

Success is by definition “Unusual” so you have to do something unusual to get that type of success. Building wealth requires action in the form of Experiences too. Todd says,
A wealthy life is about experiences not stuff. And sometimes, this requires monetary investment. That’s an action step you must choose to take or leave. Remember that if you’re attached to “stuff,” wealth will always evade you.

Todd Is In The Trenches Too

In fact, he’s in there right now! As he runs a service business, he still trades time for money. However, he also leverages that with group coaching and strategic marketing (you can also add products in there too). Todd advises isolating your work to create more leverage. Couple that with a healthy dose of hustle and you will surely bridge the gap

187smIn this episode we’ll cover:

  • The significance of habits
  • How habits create your wealth
  • Why Wealth is about Experience
  • Developing a growth oriented philosophy
  • Why your attitude determines ALL

Practical and Actionable:

How to build wealth: be a true entrepreneur. This is more than a “self employed job.” Being a true entrepreneur is about becoming fluent in leveraging principles and business systems. It’s one thing to get yourself in a place where you can manage all expenses. And it’s completely another to be financially free. Set your foundation early on that will allow you to create a business plan where you have a vision of where it will go.

180 | Stop Worrying About What Makes You Different with Jason Leister

Target Audience: Jason focuses on service providers and firms and specifically anyone who wants to be a one of a kind expert. He helps them create the systems that bring the clients to them.

On Raising Fees and what keeps people undercharging…

According to Jason, mindset and self image is only part of the picture. It is also about consciously choosing clients who value what you do too. Jason admits taking on clients who were not aligned with him and this is one of the factors that kept him from raising his prices.

After signing on with less-than-ideal clients, he saw that the sheen of money wore off. He became resentful about charging less than he wanted to. This prompted him to take a step back from working with clients and started writing a daily email about working with clients (“The Client Letter”). He watched as this System evolved over time. It didn’t create profit immediately but allowed him to build a relationship with his target market. People seek him now.

For Jason, this has been a process of knowing what he wanted in his life firstly. This then dictated how he created his way of serving his target market. Moral of the story: Design your life before your strategy.

How Jason gained his Target Market’s Trust…

  1. Know WHAT that group is
  2.  EARN it by showing up for people
  3. Become the trusted advisor by ACTING like one long enough

180smIn this episode we’ll cover:

  • Choosing the RIGHT clients for YOU
  • How you can finally charge higher fees
  • How to gain the trust of your Target Market
  • Why you MUST decide on the life you want to live before creating a business strategy
  • How to stop worrying about what makes you different & what to focus on instead

Practical and Actionable:

To be an incomparable expert, stop worrying about what makes you different and how to articulate it. Your audience needs to know that answer and must be able to articulate it to others. Your job is to BE it. And remember to be valuable to your people whether or not they work with you.

Target Audience: Speakers, coaches, consultants and those wanting to be better performers both on the stage and off.

Public speaking and performing considers the following to be a “Performance” (it’s not just speeches!)

  • job interview
  • negotiation
  • sales meeting
  • skype call

The Fear & the Worry of Speaking…

Your Mindset= you must see yourself as a performer. Michael Port says, “You have a desire to make an impact and on the other hand, you have the desire not to be ridiculed, made fun of or rejected. But those 2 desires cancel each other out/get in the way. So if you want to go out there and do big things, people may laugh at you from time to time (I get negative reviews on my books). Fortunately, there are more people who say they like what I do. But there’s no way i can reach those people unless i was willing to be fully self expressed. If you’re willing to be fully self expressed, you begin to silence the critics and crush your fears…”

There are 2 types of critics:

Those in their seats &….
YOURSELF.

The way we see ourselves influences the choices we make! if we have the courage to be ourselves we can truly shine. being liked vs. creating real impact. we must decide whether we want results or approval.

Elements to Speaking (avoid just highlighting rewards because it seems out of reach)

  • BIG IDEA
  • Promise (big idea supports the promise)
  • You understand the way the world looks to them
  • Provide Steps & Systems

176smIn this episode we’ll cover:

  • Why you’ve got to find the courage within to be fully expressed
  • How you perceive yourself is EVERYTHING
  • How to be a better performer on stage and off stage
  • The 9 quick fire tips to use when working on your speech.
  • The MAIN Elements you need for Speaking (forget the fluff)

Practical and Actionable:

Here are the 9 Quick Fire Tips from Michael Port you can start implementing now…

1. The Opening – cut the filler words and phrases, “Hey I just flew in from…”; get right to it instead of putting in unnecessary words to get the audience engaged

2. The Closing – make it powerful, yet it doesn’t have to be filled with fireworks; ensure the audience has taken the big idea of the speech and never do anything after the applause

3. Emotional Connection – really the most important thing is connecting at an emotional level with the audience; you might think your “how to” speech doesn’t need emotional elements, yet if you want your audience to connect to you after the speech, you want to connection with their emotions.

4. Emotional Contrast – any speech that is just one note is boring; great speeches have contrast in content, structure and emotions; move from sad to funny to engage the audience; this keeps them on the edge of their seats in a good way

5. Eye Contact – don’t stare too long to make someone uncomfortable; scan the room and look at people to draw them into the moment (Remember: Don’t picture the audience naked either.)

6. Movement – use the whole stage to connect with the audience using your movements; don’t wander or look down as these cause the audience to disengage and question your influence

7. Slides – it is never a question of using slides or NOT using slides; the issue is how you use them to support your message; Seth Godin is a master at using slides and can use 150 slides in a single presentation; use slides to write your speech first and create slides to support your message (most people want to write slides then write the speech; this places the slides in the performer’s seat instead of you).

8. Audience Interaction – must be in proportion to the amount of trust you have developed with the audience; opening with a question that is too invasive will cause you to lose the audience; by the end of the presentation, you have built more trust and you can ask more of the audience

9. Practice – Michael believes that you must practice your speech. OK, this is not news to you. However, are you practicing with the awareness of the above tips? In Steal the Show, Michael gives insights to better practice techniques that will make you more prepared for your performance on stage.
