Christine Hassler, author of the book Expectation Hangover gets vulnerable about how she found true happiness. In using the experience of a crisis, she found the excuse to go through a soul transformation. Now she helps others do the same! On this episode, we talk about how the way to do truly impactful work is by answering our own inner calling. It is about understanding that the answers cannot be found anywhere outside of ourselves.

Share the LOVE and TWEET about this episode.

Target Audience: Christine travels the globe hosting retreats and speaks at events. She helps people answer the vital questions of: Who am I? What do I want? How do I get it? And What’s the impact I want to make?

After a quarter life crisis and several personal and professional losses, Christine decided to reorient her life. She realized she had been seeking happiness outside herself. Yet, she finally understood happiness could only be found from within. This understanding totally flipped her orientation and perspective on life.

Expectation Hangover (Christine’s published book)

What was aching inside that made the book happen? Christine shares that the stream of crises provided a huge window of opportunity for transformation to occur. It’s what Christine calls the “Expectation hangover.” We want to get out of the feeling of pain, disappointment as quickly as possible. Some of us see it as an opportunity for healing. It is a chance to get out of destructive cycles you may be repeating.

When it comes to heartache, (in business or personal) ‘quick fixes’ don’t really cut it. This, Christine wanted to create a holistic and comprehensive book that serves as a treatment plan to help people heal from some of their deepest pains.

On a soul level, it is important to feel in touch with our gifts, like we are leaving behind a legacy. At the core, each of us wants to create something that is meaningful. The hard part is that we are wired and taught how to achieve success externally and logistically. We are not taught to know what success really feels like on an internal level. We’re not taught how to look at our own shadows.

To do impactful work, we have to be clear. We need a solid foundation. It is easy to build a business that makes money but not as easy to build something truly connected to who we are on the soul level.

Sometimes we need an expectation hangover to get ourselves in gear. But sometimes we are afraid of making the changes because of the unknown future. And then, the universe might bring us that expectation hangover because something needed to change. All in all, we are the ones who manifest the changes in our lives.

Activating People to Move Forward with More Clarity

What Christine first does to help her clients is identify their compensatory strategy. As babies we were totally whole. Then life events caused us to have these compensatory strategies in attempts to feel that wholeness again. For example becoming a people pleaser or an over achiever are 2 examples of a compensatory strategy. The motivation stems from a place of lack. This way of living is unsustainable if true happiness and fulfillment is what one seeks.

What is motivating your success, truly? Does it stem from some pain? Shift to the possibility of what you could create based on INSPIRATION rather than MOTIVATION. That changes the context of what SUCCESS really means!

What’s the difference between INSPIRATION VS. MOTIVATION

Motivation- IS a drive and a push. Often people are hard on themselves and they don’t even realize it. Pressure- very heady and stems from an external rather than internal.

Inspiration – is about feeling. It is an inner CALLING. There are feelings of excitement, enthusiasm and resonance with who you are. Inspiration comes from vision and moves us forward. It has a much lighter quality while also having momentum.

In this episode we’ll cover:

  • Seeking happiness from within
  • Using crisis for transformation
  • How to do impactful work
  • Answering our Souls’ inner calling
  • INSPIRATION VS. MOTIVATION

Practical and Actionable:

Get out a piece of paper. Mark it 1-5
Write down your top 5 core values. Most can’t do it. Or perhaps they haven’t given it a lot of thought. Our values are our compass. That’s how we know what we are inspired by. Before making decisions, check in to see if the decision lines up with those values. Write down your vision. Use your imagination productively. Rather than worry, create a positive vision. Write it, see it, feel it every day. Let your vision be your gas to pull you forward.

When you are ready to take your service business to the next level, this is the episode for you. This one is about how to scale your service based business. I chatted with Mandi Ellefson to uncover the key steps to scaling with systems in your business. We talk about the aspects of scaling that gets in the way too.

Share the LOVE and TWEET about this episode.

Target Audience: Mandi serves 6-7 figure Business Owners with established businesses who have been around for a little while. They are seeking (or more like needing!) to scale. They are caught between the challenge of scaling up the business by giving up their quality of life or stagnating growth just to have a life. Their ultimate goal is to become a “hands off CEO.”

A SCREECHING Halt Turns Into…

Mandi knew she had to create a business without the business owner (her) that provided FREEDOM. She came to a point where everything just turned into overwhelm and thus, things had to CHANGE. She managed to take her custom service business and turn it into a full-time scalable business.

The biggest pain is working so many hours without feeling like there is much progress happening. And then, when you are making progress, it is at the expense of something else in your life. The other pain is the fear of hiring someone who will not uphold the quality the business owner provides himself or herself. Unfortunately, this is the case 99% of the time.

Letting Go to Scale Your Business

In order to let go and scale your business, Mandi created a System comprised of 5 steps. You can find out more here http://handsoffceo.com/home/

Most importantly, is to get control of your time! This is first and foremost, otherwise, you won’t be able to implement the rest of the system. Also streamlining service delivery is another aspect of this system. It is important to customize it.

So, What Gets in the Way of Scaling?

If the value is in the business owner, you will be stuck!! Time is the biggest pain. Finding ways to tweak your time is everything. Also, making a plan to put things in place so that your team can run things without you is another BIGGIE. Creating a system to make that all work is the name of the game.

Practical and Actionable:

Identify what you want to accomplish. What is your vision for the next 3 years? What is your vision for your life period? How is your business going to be serving that vision? Reflect on ways you can find more time so you can access the steps talked about here (and over on the website http://handsoffceo.com/home/) and implement!

Leading change in any organization is a constant, ever evolving challenge. This requires the discipline to change and the desire to disrupt. This interview with Ryan goes deep into aspects of leadership we have not delved into before on this show. Listen to this episode to see how leadership drives investment, performance, and growth.

Target Audience: Ryan serves a broad range of businesses who are focused on effectively navigating change and growth. He hosts about 75-80 Live Events a year focused on business performance.

Innovation & Effectively Managing through Change

Businesses are changing at a rate like never before. This is the challenge leaders are facing today- how to effectively navigate today’s ever changing marketplace.

Out of Dilemmas are Born New Solutions

Having the desire to disrupt and reinvent your business is everything in today’s world. Clients are growing faster than agencies today. Technology is shifting the landscape quickly. In essence, Technology is disrupting everything. Even the way we purchase is constantly changing. Take Amazon for example. Bookselling is pretty much extinct. And one day soon, Amazon will be disrupted too. This is why we all must have an appetite for reinvention. This is a challenge every leader should be thinking about.

We are Creatures of Habit: Why that’s a PROBLEM…

The fear of failure within each of us as Leaders must be navigated. Ryan believes the biggest breakthrough in business happens right outside our comfort zones. He advises to lead from the perspective that you will be uncomfortable. Tolerance for failure is everything. Do you treat them as valuable lessons pushing you forward?

The way we lead is constantly being disrupted too. There is an underlying and constant pressure to do things better faster and differently. One could react to this in a stressful way or perceive it as a catalyst for growth.

If you’re not taking the time out to be still and think and be creative about your next steps, it will cost you. This is why it’s super important not to over schedule yourself. Be mindful of this!

What pisses off Ryan most…

Despite the fact we have more ways to communicate than ever before, Employees are starving for communication. Leadership is a responsibility we must step up to and OWN. It is also an opportunity to change employees’ lives too. Listening is everything. It’s also about the courage to set standards and hold people accountable to the standards you’ve established. Leaders must set this example first and foremost. Consistency is key.

Leading through change - adaptive, innovation Practical and Actionable:

If you want to effectively lead through change you must have a clear target. What’s the VISION? It must be clearly defined and consistently articulated because  it instills confidence in the future. It also prevents people (staff) from opting out.

Enemies To Your Vision – Writing Your Vision

We all face challenges in life and our businesses. Failure is a natural part of life and business.  You will face challenges and failures in creating and implementing your VISION, but don’t worry, you can overcome these challenges.

An “enemy” in this instance is anything that limits or blocks the creation of your VISION. As you read this list, think about how these enemies could affect you and how you would overcome these challenges.

#1 I know what to do, I don’t need a VISION.

#2 VISIONS take too long, I am in a hurry.

#3 I have a project plan (or business plan, strategy, blueprint, etc.) already.

#4 It is impossible.

#5 It is too expensive.

#6 It will take too long.

#7 I lack the skills to include that in my VISION.

#8 I need to shoot lower because that is too hard (or big).

#9 Your beliefs, opinions, and assessments (these limit what you see as possible).

#10 Spending too much time on your VISION.

Number 10 is especially important. A VISION needs to live and become a reality.  If you spend too much time creating your VISION, you will find it hard to take action when needed.  A VISION is critical to your success, but do not get paralyzed and lack the drive to make your VISION real.

Target Audience: I choose to work with Thriving leaders who are aware that this is a never-ending process. These individuals are smart and driven CEOs that are eager to play the game of leadership at the highest levels possible. My clients don’t need coaches, however they want a coach that drives them to achieve their most extraordinary goals.

In this episode I review the following. Take a moment to take some inventory around these topics for your own business. In 2015, how was your:

  • Revenue?
  • Profits?
  • Impact?
  • Relationships in business?
  • Relationships in personal life?

While this episode is focused on me, it is also a review of what you can learn. I will share with you 3 killer questions that can shift you into a fantastic year…

My Wins

1) My revenue increased about 50%, While I didn’t reach my stretch goal, I did grow.

2) My Client success is through the roof!

Ron= 408% growth in last 12 months; one speaking gig for 250K
Jason= Revenue up over 200%. Completed 2 Speaking events where he made 50k.
Brian Merger with Ron= Together, we revamped his team’s structure. Adding sales meetings resulted in an immediate burst of sales!
Wayne was in a small program I launched this year called Authority Camp. He acquired 6 gigs.
Derek found his position in the market as a brander/creative director to speakers (getting 7 referrals in the last 2 weeks alone)

I also received 8 referrals in last 6 weeks and to me, this is a great sign of impact!

What I am bringing into my awareness when it comes to my work with clients…

I am working on attachment issues around my clients’ successes. Some people step into what their goals and others don’t. I realize this is not something I have control over.

3) Writing for Entrepreneur Magazine. This catalyzed thousands of shares and is now the #1 source for traffic to my website

4) By adding to my team I created improved systems, held weekly meetings and was able to finish projects more efficiently. A team of 5 highly efficient people have helped to take the pressure off of me.

5) I Invested in myself. I hired 2 coaches this year (private and a group program) and invested 25k just this year. Why so much? I needed it. I had reached a ceiling and wanted to continue my growth. I could have done it on my own. However the investment is what helped me grow the most.

6) Speaking – I spoke 8 times this year. Working on more for next year

Internal growth and shifts: What I learned…

  • Too many projects! & Spreading myself thin
  • Not providing myself enough time for follow ups
  • Not having strong email and campaigns

What’s in store for me in 2016…

#1 Speaking – a paid speaker; booked gigs for Spring 2016 already

#2 Pivoting – the change in strategy

  • audience
  • solution/problem
  • offers
  • free calls to Deposit required calls

#3 New Branding

Website= The original website – Genehammett.com focused on speaking, workshops, the podcast and leadership. My new website will simply be my name and reflect new guests and a deeper focus on leadership.

#4 Writing for Large Publications

  • Becoming a weekly contributor
  • Creating multiple publications

So as we move into a new year, I ask you…

  • What is the #1 strategy for growth? What’s one thing that if you master it, will make your business take off? For me it is speaking. What is it for you?
  • What do you need to let go of?
  • What do you seriously need to start saying NO to?
  • What clients will you say NO to?
  • What projects will you delay until Q2?
  • Who do you need to BE to have the success you want?

191smIn this episode we’ll cover:

  • My wins of 2015
  • What was spreading me too thin in 2015
  • 3 questions that will shift you!
  • 3 POWER questions that can change your year and your life
  • My goals for 2016

Practical and Actionable

And here are 3 POWER questions that if you have the answer to will shift you.

1) What is your #1 growth strategy? What’s that one thing? To help you out, I encourage you to find 3 words that embody:
Focus
Connection
Transformation

2) What do you need to let go of?

Ken Dunn is the Founder and Chief of Reader’s Legacy – an online space for the new age of publishing. Reader’s Legacy is bound and determined to revolutionize the way people read, and experience books. Of course, this episode is more than just about books -it’s about revolutionizing the way we do things. It’s about pushing the margin and obeying your vision. Tune in here as we discuss the power of determination and passion.

Share the LOVE and TWEET about this episode.

Target Audience: Reader’s Legacy serves authors and readers who love to read books.

173smWhy must the way we read, write and experience books be changed?

Jerson claims the old model of this is broken. Why? Because first time authors don’t stand a chance with the old model. The new model associated with Reader’s Legacy is an author- centered process. In other words, authors control and fund the process (at the same rate with other publishers). Reader’s Legacy also handles the distribution process. And “High Bred Publishing” has been created which is a social media site and a functions as a virtual version of their library. People can buy books via the site utilizing “Lit Coins.” See more here.

Perhaps you can relate to this because you want to publish a book. But even if you don’t there is a more powerful message in this podcast. It’s about honoring your VISION. Honoring your vision also requires your commitment to working through adverse moments.

Your vision must possess you even when you are in the most adverse parts of your journey. Ken says, “if you’re not growing, you’re dying.” This is about the road of constant reinvention and expansion with doses of adversity.

This is what Ken Dunn realized which sculpted the backbone of Reader’s Legacy. Ken had to acknowledge certain aspects of our current world, such as the power of Social Media and the Internet. Whether we like it or not, Social Media is part of life now, people shop online and people still like reading books. Putting all those facets together allowed the creation of Reader’s Legacy.

Why is COURAGE important in running a business?

According to Jen, it’s about motivation and passion. Courage is more exhilarating than the fear of the loss. The commonality entrepreneurs all possess is that we see what others don’t see.

In this episode we’ll cover:

  • Why your Vision guides you through adversity
  • Why Adversity is part of the growth process
  • The importance of revolutionising what you do. Constantly!
  • How Courage is more exhilarating than FEAR
  • If you’re not growing you’re dying
  • How Reader’s Legacy revolutionizes the way people read, and experience books.

Practical and Actionable

#1- Get into a good book. Find someone with the success you want and ask them to recommend a book.
#2- If you’re floundering in your business, remember new revenue solves all problems. Do an audit on yourself and identify the discrepancies.
