253 | A new dynamic in Leadership with Mitch Axelrod

Leadership is different and has not changed either.  Now is the time to examine your leadership strategies to improve your goal setting. Discover the new approaches that our guest gives us. Mitch Axelrod shares how he looks at goal setting and why the process must change.

Share the LOVE and TWEET about this episode.

Target Audience: Mitch Axelrod serves businesses and organizations big and small. His mission is about helping people actualizing their own inner power. It is then about monetizing that through profitability.

The model of Leadership has traditionally been top down and one dimensional. Usually it is focused on the mission of the company. We are 3 dimensional human beings. Mitch believes in Axiology- the measure of human value. There are 3 dimensions to this.

The 3 Dimensions of Axiology: GOALS ROLES AND SOUL

Goal: This is the first dimension. The goal is a concept and it is clear cut. It is all about where you are going

Role: What you are doing

Soul: Is about who you are being

So much of what we do today only encompasses the goal dimension. The purpose of the role is to get the goal. The company adjusts the role. Then you address the soul of the human being. The soul is constantly needing to be expressed. Role is of higher value than the goal and the soul dimension is of higher value than the role.

For so many people, their soul dimensions are starving. What’s evolving now in business based on values is that companies are realizing people would leave for better opportunities in order to feel more fulfilled in their work. Don’t shrink a person to fit the job. Rather, expand the job to fit the person

3 Dimensions. 3 Questions: What Every Company Should Ask to Catalyze Transformation

Goal dimension: Are you where you think you ought to be right now in your life?

Role dimension: Are you valuing what you do and getting value out of what you do? Are you doing something you actually value?

Soul dimension: are you feeling expressed? Are you actually feeling like you are being yourself and that you are living your life in congruence to who you are?

The Power in Providing Autonomy within Your Company

It’s saying to the person: We trust you enough to expand the job description to fit the value of the YOU.

Your profession is not what you do to bring home a paycheck. Your profession is what you were put on earth to do with such passion and intensity that it becomes a spiritual experience and fulfills your calling. This is very different than a job.

In this episode we’ll cover:

  • Goal, Role and Soul Dimensions
  • Why people are dissatisfied with their work
  • How to dig deep in uncovering your soul’s purpose
  • The reality about fulfilling your Calling
  • The power of Autonomy

Practical and Actionable:

Do your soul setting, then your role setting, then your goal setting. How do I get back to my soul? Quiet yourself and get back inside. Use your intuition. That voice only you can hear.

249 | How to Break Through The Noise - The One Strategy You Need with Ryan Deiss

If you are in marketing, you likely know of Ryan Deiss. Ryan is the founder and CEO of DigitalMarketer. Over the last 36 months Ryan and his team have invested over $15,000,000 on marketing tests, generated tens of millions of unique visitors, sent well over a BILLION emails, and run approximately 3,000 split and multi-variant tests.  Today we talk about how to get traction for your business. In the practical and actionable portion of the interview, Ryan shares the #1 place to start that you can do this week to drive your business forward.

Share the LOVE and TWEET about this episode.

Target Audience: Digital Marketer serves marketing professionals and marketing agencies. Specifically, the new emergent group of digitally focused marketing agencies.

Being a Thought Leader

It’s been a long journey and Ryan doesn’t believe he has ever actually “arrived” at being a “thought leader.” He is grateful to the people in his life who keep him humble and challenge him to continue evolving.

One pivotal moment that caused him to realize he has the ability to influence was when he created an event and over 200 people registered. This was a shock! That’s where Digital Marketer started to expand.

In the third consecutive year of putting on this event, they had about 1,000 people attend. He realized at that point that they must have been saying something that was resonating with people. He knew then they must be providing VALUE.

Ryan says, you’ve got to give yourself a shot to amplify your message. Don’t just assume people are just going to notice.

Ryan joined mastermind groups he couldn’t necessarily afford. He attended events he couldn’t necessarily afford. But he made it a priority to be in these spaces where he could grow. He put his best efforts in always executing good work. He feels it is what separates them from other digital marketing companies. It’s about having the goods and the amplification. You need both!

When you are trying to build a reputation, it is important to go out there and give VALUE first. People are against giving stuff away for free, but in the beginning this could be a real benefit. There is something to be said about being real. About putting in the work and getting some results for other people. Then you actually HAVE something to TALK about.

Key Principles to Breaking Through the Noise

ADVERTISE: put out one piece of amazing content and advertise around that. It could be a blog post, video, podcast episode, infographic. The medium doesn’t matter- it just needs to be something people can gain access to without having to jump through a hoop. This is what builds your audience and credibility: finding out what THEY like.

How to Advertise

Google “$10 a day traffic plan.” Do it for a week or 2. You can get a solid test effort. It’s money well invested. Facebook is a great place to execute ads.

In this episode we’ll cover:

  • How to break through the noise
  • Building your credibility
  • Giving value first
  • Creating your traffic plan
  • Modeling after other Marketers

Practical and Actionable:

When modeling other marketers, make sure you see the whole picture. Find out what they did in the BEGINNING rather than merely looking at what it currently looks like. Modeling is great but you want to make sure you are not “cheating off the stupid kid.”

Our guest, Stefanie Diaz is the founder of Mastermind Your Launch. We talk about owning who you are to launch a business. This episode is about how to play on your strengths. We also delve into the power of content marketing and how it can accelerates your business. What are your own personal strengths and how will you use them to serve the world?

Share the LOVE and TWEET about this episode.

Target Audience: Stefanie serves startups to serial entrepreneurs by helping them crate a marketing strategy with an intentional focus on personal branding and content creation. These are the areas that accelerated her own success.

Do you understand the power of having a professional brand? It’s about claiming awareness about where your strengths are and how you serve the world.

Mastermind Your Launch

This was a passion project Stefanie delved into when she knew she wanted to start her own business. So, she formed a mastermind of ambitious women who held her accountable through her process.

What Personal Branding Means to Stefanie

What’s most often asked when it comes to personal branding is, “How do you want to show up and be perceived?” But for Stefanie it is more about bringing one’s personality to the forefront.

Email Marketing

Stefanie advises her clients to make sure to place an image – a photo- in emails that reveal a personal story and who they are. You want to inspire your audience to share it with others.

Stefanie finds that people hesitate to even share their enthusiasm because they are concerned about a certain structure they THINK they SHOULD follow. But for startups, your enthusiasm is part of how you connect with people. It is about how you wave that flag and get people to follow you.

When it comes to sharing the bad- share from your scar not from your wound. The Wound- shows you are still going through it. Bigger impact is created with your scar because it shows you have made it through to the other side. You take them through the journey of seeing what’s possible.

How Stefanie Got Here

She did a business program in college and afterwards landed a job with a startup company. It was an opportunity to see the inner workings of a company. Sales and marketing was the focus. But she also was able to explore other areas. What she took away was how the entrepreneur thought strategically. It gave her the confidence to launch a business.

When her son was born, it totally launched her to create a business she loved and what helped to birth “Mastermind Your Launch.” Internally, she felt a responsibility to set an example for her son. She wanted him to grow up watching her doing what she really loved.

Owning Your Truth

When you shine your light and people are watching, you don’t know who you will inspire.

Content Marketing

Content Marketing accelerates everything that you do.

  1. When it comes to advertising, (let’s say with a business card for example) people have their walls up. However, when we are offered a piece of content, we read, share and like it. The brain is more open because they don’t feel like they’re being sold something.
  2. Allows you to leverage your time and reach many people all at once. By sharing value, you nurture and grow relationships.

Playing on Your Strengths

Showing your authenticity and personality means sharing the good and sharing the bad.

Speaking to get clients

Making the invitation requires confidence. The intention must come from a place of offering them the opportunity to get to know them better.

The Trap of Success

Stefanie was enjoying a ‘nice’ lifestyle before she launched her business. She didn’t have a reason to launch a business and to risk any stability. Yet she wasn’t loving what she was doing. She was comfortable. Her son being born flipped her perspective. This has brought so much more meaning in her life.

In this episode we’ll cover:

  • Owning who you are to launch a business
  • What inspired Stefanie to take the plunge
  • What the Trap of Success means to Stefanie
  • How to play on your strengths
  • Why content marketing accelerates a business

Practical and Actionable:

THINK BIG when creating your personal brand. We may feel intimidated by people who are actually doing this. We may feel we are NOT on their level and go the ‘cookie cutter’ route. GO ALL IN. Share a big message- something that is not out there. And that only lies within you. Only YOU carry that message. People want to work with others whom they know, like and trust.

240 | How to Network - The New Rules with Angus Nelson

Welcome to the new paradigm of leadership and networking! Executive coach and speaker, Angus Nelson  empowers people and embodies a compassionate spirit when connecting with others. When it comes to Marketing, transparent and sincere connection are the new rules of the game. Today, it is the relationships we choose to nurture that determine the trajectory of our success!

Share the LOVE and TWEET about this episode.

Target Audience: Angus works with top brands from across the globe. This includes mainly executives. The goal is to help them  become their most effective self by increasing mindfulness through dominating fears.

The Concept Behind Building Relationships – Why is it important?

No one is typically getting a job off of a resume these days. In 2016, opportunities arise from the people they know. It is currently commonly known now that you are the sum total of the 5 people closest to you. And in those relationships, Angus speaks about the importance of offering value instead of taking.

What’s created as a result is an authentic dynamic. People often miss this or take it for granted. This idea can be applied in all areas and levels of life (whether business or other). Angus reminds us to remember to be present and find gratitude today.

Creating a Healthy Mindset

We spend most of our lives in one of 2 places: the past or the future. We compare ourselves to others and see what we lack. It’s important to cultivate a presence with ourselves. This equals abundance, confidence and generosity in the present moment. It creates the mindset of: “I have nothing to lose or prove; I only come to serve.” This subtle shift dynamically changes the relationships you have with others.

Our level of abundance plays out in everything around us. People want to be around you when you exude joy and generosity. Instead of you trying to compensate for lack or weakness, (which most people will see through anyway) they will see you as authentic and real. So many doors open up when you let your true self shine.

The very thing we want so desperately is the very thing we fear. We don’t want to be seen as weak. Yet in that place transparency is the element of power.

Angus believes that you will always win when you serve. And you will never know until you put yourself out there. We’re not here to gain a lot of money. Those things are great- yet not as satisfying as human connection. Relationships show you who you are far more effectively than your performance or production.

Thus, the foundational culture you set for your team is that of support; That you will have each others back. Avoid calling people out and rather, help them when they are weak. Exemplify that you are there for one another. If we can get into the mindset of serving one another, everyone wins.

In this episode we’ll cover:

  • How to create meaningful relationships to grow your biz
  • Why it pays to be authentic
  • The power in transparency
  • How to be more present NOW
  • Increasing your mindfulness

Practical and Actionable:

Connect

Communicate value

Cultivate

Here’s a more detailed explanation:

How do we make a sale in the midst of all this too? Value is this: as soon as you get home from that event with all these cards organize them into 2 separate piles: the ones that seemed neat; and cards that are potential business leads. Then, prepare to follow up. It is the most important part of any of this.

For the first set of cards, the convo goes like this:

  1. Great to meet you
  2. Loved our convo about X
  3. The part i really walked away with with was Y

This is giving value by showing them the difference they made for you.

You do the exact same thing with a leads except you add a 4th part:

Provide a resource of some sort that has to do with the unique relationship you just formed. You share you care about them enough to show your support.

These are the elements of connection people don’t often think about. This is about a person not a PRODUCT. When time is right you can “make the ask” – or most likely YOU WON’T HAVE TO because they will come to you.

What equates to is what humanity is all about. When you can reach people on a human level, everything changes.

Growth hacking is not a new term. It has become a big topic in today’s marketing and scaling conversations.  Our guest today is Brad Stevens with Entreholic. We talk about new tools and strategies to accelerate your growth. See how you can use growth hacking in your business.

Share the LOVE and TWEET about this episode.

Target Audience: At Entreholic, Brad primarily focus on providing  fully outsourced turn key marketing solutions for small to medium businesses. He and his team developed online courses to help small business owners and entrepreneurs with the resources to get “out of the ground.”

A Bit of Background

After starting multiple companies, he’s been eating, sleeping and breathing the essence of entrepreneurship. In his journey, he picked up marketing and technology techniques that could be used to launch companies these days- and even leveraging the companies through different modalities. Entreholic pieces together all the creative and innovative ways you’ve got to think about when starting a business.

So, What’s Growth Hacking?

It is about finding innovative ways to get your biz out of the ground and leveraging tools not available to people in the past. Growth Hacking outlines ways to stretch your dollar whilst getting leads, closing sales and driving your brand. The ideas and solutions are out of the traditional norm.

Data Mining

You can leverage resourcing and leveraging what you outsource to people who do nothing but low cost administrative work that can scrape the web an entire list for you of hundreds or thousands of target individuals.

Trait shows

If you want to be in front of the thought leaders in your industry, you could do a search. Again, this is yet another task that could be outsourced if you’re not up for it.  You (or the person you hire ) can assemble a spreadsheet of thought leaders and shows. The sites most likely have a tab on their site called “Speakers” – then you instantly have a list of all the thought leaders in you industry

Predictable Revenue- Recommended Read!

This book outlined how you blend technology and approach with your sales process. It helped Brad to differentiate his strategies between Smarter vs harder.

ELANCE

Though there are negative reviews out there, there is great potential in using this platform to outsource. It created so much freedom for Brad. There’s a global network of tens of millions of people who are highly talented, professionally trained and who want to work remotely and use technology! They work from home and are able to do unbelievable work at cost effective rates. You could have multiple people working for you/with you doing different types of tasks.

Figuring It All Out

What are you trying to get done in your business (as far as a digital marketing system goes)? Determine that first and then identify where freelancers would plug into the equation. What are the things you really like doing? What are the things you may like doing but don’t have the right kind of expertise in? Content writing is a great example. What are the top 3 main priorities (main impact)?

Why Does it Matter?

For Brad, it’s a big unique puzzle of what you can potentially do to grow your business. It is about working smarter not harder. Brad enjoys helping people figure out how to leverage your time and money both personally and professionally. As an entrepreneur himself, he loves helping other entrepreneurs.

What we’ll cover in this episode

Living for comfort is a mistake. Yes…if you seek comfort in all that you do, you will fail to grow and navigate the challenges of life. This interview is all about understanding your comfort zone and stepping outside that zone so that you grow. Dr. Liz Bywater is our guest who shares her views on the comfort zone.

Share the LOVE and TWEET about this episode.

Target Audience: Dr. Liz Bywater works with leaders across the Fortune 500 companies. She serves leaders and teams. The focus is always on helping them do their best work. It is about elevating performance, being more effective, making the right decisions and getting things done.

Transitions in Roles: Moving Out of Comfort Zones

Dr. Liz has a passion for Leadership teams. She loves to guide individual leaders in pulling together their teams. This could be a matter of hiring new people – re-organizing the team or even helping the team to understand the overall vision and direction. Also very important is that they have good ground rules for working with one another.

Whether it is a parallel move or any other type of move, there will always be new ways you must learn to have impact.

What’s in the way of making a transition or that next step for most people?

People are in a role for a certain period of time. One gets to know where their strengths are and probably risen to a leadership level based on expertise. At each step we are being pushed farther and farther beyond our intrinsic comfort zones. According to Dr. Liz, you have to try new things and interact with people in different ways. You have to communicate on a higher level.

Sometimes you are asked to transition into a role that’s exciting yet intimidating. You are required to utilize certain leadership skills you may have not learned. Or those skills could be sitting in you waiting to come out and you just don’t know it yet!

The Concept Behind the Infamous Comfort Zone

There’s lots of validity around the idea according to Dr. Liz. However, whatever degree of comfort there may be, there is always room for the potential to stretch. But who we are at our core (our confidence) determines so much. Dr. Liz is all about the ‘fake it until you make it’ idea. She says, show people you know what you are doing. People will see the confidence you are projecting. Get intentional about what is you want to grow.

Get out of the worry place in your head. Get excited and ready to go. You can do this on a daily basis. Take a pause and a breath at some time in your office so that you are prepared, posed and confident about what you are about to deliver. Prepare yourself to engender the confidence of the people around you.

We’re living in a world where people have never felt more rushed and there’s no way to sugar coat it. People are running around as if there is a fire everywhere. This is not a sustainable model or a growth model for individuals. And while it is a challenge, it is not an insurmountable challenge.

A “Forced Pause”: What a session with Dr. Liz Bywater looks like…

Dr. Liz asks her clients: What are you trying to achieve and what are the best actions- what will get you to your end goal?

Ask yourself: What on items could be tackled your calendar today that will help me get to my goal more quickly? And what can I take off? By deciding what to take off, I’m deciding if this is something that I have to do or someone else has to do.  Take it off your plate. Also the question of when is of essence? Will it be now? Later? Never? This helps one to come up with real strategic ways to do things to move forward more rapidly.

The Inner Game

The inner game is essential. Your inner belief system determines how you decide the actions you take.

Dr. Liz holds up a mirror to people – so they can understand their own impact. She asks about 8-10 people in the company questions about her client. This gives insight into how the client is coming across.

The Model Dr. Liz uses: “PRP”

PAUSE- assess where you are and where you have been

REFLECT- take the time to look at what you bring to the table; what are the gaps?

PROJECT- Taking action. Identify and determine how you will reach your goal

Why Executives Dr. Liz?

Dr. Liz chose to work with executives because they are motivated and want to take action. She finds them to be smart, motivated and interesting. Likewise, they can impact those who work all around them. The culture they set has major impact. The impact is broad, wide, deep and thus meaningful!

Practical and Actionable

Write down your PRP. Decide to take a deliberate pause  (determine how much time you’d like to take out for this). Take a deep dive and develop your strategy using this model. Create your dynamic plan.

236 | Starbucks: Filling Your Soul With Howard Behar

What does your Soul have to do with Leadership? Howard Behar is the former President of Starbucks. On this episode, we discuss the connection between the soul and how we lead. How we show up every day is the rewarding challenging we can engage in, in order to remain in tune with life’s work. Howard’s key message is about valuing the people we serve. This is a first and foremost priority that comes before anything else.

Share the LOVE and TWEET about this episode.

Target Audience: Howard serves anyone who wants to become a better human being and a better leader. That pretty much covers everyone in the world.

Howard is the son of 2 immigrants who settled in Seattle. He shares how they didn’t have much but there was always love. His Mom and Dad had a mom and pop business (grocery store) – so there was always food on the table.

Leadership at Starbucks

Howard joined the Starbucks team when there were only 28 stores. At the time, he was actually trying to escape the corporate life. He was In search of something that filled his soul. Howard shares how his journey with Starbucks was one heck of a ride- it was one fast pony where the business quickly grew from 28 stores to 24,000 (today).

Why Did You Have to Feed Your Soul?

Howard says he always had to have purpose greater than myself. He felt that whatever job he had, he needed to feel like he couldn’t wait to do it when he got up in the morning. And so it was with Starbucks. What motivated him each and every day was the fact that they weren’t serving customers, but human beings

It’s About Going From Success to Significance

What really matters is what you are contributing to the world. When you look back it’s not going to be about the money you made.

What are the Key Values for a Company and a Person?

It requires thought. The intention could always be about loving people. This required Howard to look inside himself and identify who he was as a person. Once one does that, it is amazing how you come together with others (connect) and how you get to live a more caring and productive life.

The Connection Between Great Leadership & Leading Through Values

Great leadership lives its values. Take children for example. Children don’t pay attention to what you say but what you DO. If you say you ‘care’ about people, what does that actually mean? People are not assets- but human beings. Howard wants to be known about nurturing the human spirit.

Howard’s mission is to live his life everyday nurturing and inspiring the human spirit of himself and others. He’s learned how to take care of himself- emotionally and spiritually. The mission of Starbucks truly resonated with him. It’s what mattered to him. Howard says, “We’re not in the coffee business serving people, but we’re in the people business serving coffee.”

People need to know what you are about. Howard has given the same speech of how it’s about people. You can’t get bored as a leader talking about what your mission is about if you truly believe in your message.

Practical and Actionable

Howard used to send birthday and company anniversary cards until they hit 10,000 people. He then would just send them out to management- which they trickled out to everyone else. He’d personally sign them with a little note even if he didn’t know them. People until this day still have the notes in their cubicles/offices. It doesn’t take much to show people care- other than that one extra second. Those kinds of messages stay with an organization forever.

Don’t just say how much you care. SHOW IT!

What Real Leadership means to Jeffrey

Jeffrey shares that every time he comes across a great leader, they are always extremely focused and not afraid to get their hands dirty. They know what it takes to do every job – and then they can make better decisions on where they want their business to go.

What are Conditions of Satisfaction?

The most successful businesses he knows have this. Everything they do in their day is Laser Focused on Conditions of Satisfaction. Anything outside of that is a distraction – like squirrels or Tweets, etc.

Creating Moments of Satisfaction in Your Business

Jeffrey Believes in promises not goals or objectives. He explains that there are always 2 sides. On the one side you’ve got a Customers and on the other are the Performers. You go through this action cycle in a way in which you deliver that promise and that = Customer Satisfaction! A promise is a mutual condition of satisfaction

Jeffrey doesn’t see the difference between himself and his business. It has always been a natural extension of himself. It’s not the lucky who win it’s the RELENTLESS. If it was easy, everyone would do it and not everybody does. And not everyone is successful at it. Therein lies the difference between the doers and those that don’t.

Practical and Actionable:

Get laser focused and write down what your personal conditions of satisfaction in your business and in your life are. Get clear on your relationships (both business and personal) and what your conditions mean for your spiritual growth. Understanding those things, can help you go FAR.

The more we understand the science behind these things, the more we can take advantage. The Initial book is for products while the second one is about transforming behaviors.

What motivates us to take action?

There are patterns to social influence. It’s happening all around us all the time. Social influence either attracts or repels.

Often in small businesses, we make group decisions. Whoever goes first has a big impact on the decisions the group makes as a collective. Sometimes the decision goes awry. And people then wonder how they could have gone a different way.

So, how do we make good decisions? Jonah says to set up a designated decenter. Point someone out who will purposely disagree or play devil’s advocate. Why? Because people feel like they can’t. Create that role right off the bat. This frees everyone else to come up with their own opinions too. They will feel more comfortable to share their independent viewpoint. This facilitates better decision making.

It’s never too early or too late to start a business.Today’s guest is Caleb Maddix- 14 year old entrepreneur and founder of Kids 4 Success. • Kids who want to do something but don’t think they can because of their age.
  • Adults who have lost passion for life – or want to uncover something they are passionate about.

14 year old Caleb had a simple desire at age 12 when he expressed to his dad that he wanted to write a book. Before he knew it, he started typing up his inspiration and within a month had a completed book called Keys to Success for Kids that published on Amazon. It is now recognized across America.

Soon, his company called “Kids for Success” was born where so many kids are impacted every day. He now also does a lot of speaking inspiring youth to go for their drams.

On Coming from a Place of Passion

You can have as much passion as you want but unless you factor in all the things you need to run the business growth cannot take place. Here are some of the necessary elements needed to run a successful business according to Caleb:

  • Work
  • Knowledge
  • Connections
  • Ability to communicate
  • Ability to Lead
  • If you don’t know how to work the engine, you can’t ever fly!

The #1 Mistake People Make with Speaking

They forget WHY they are doing it. People sometimes get caught up in how they can impress rather than coming from a place of SERVICE. Having jitters are a healthy! It means you CARE and want to help as many people as possible.

What are you most proud of?

Caleb doesn’t care about amount of views he gets. His goal is to IMPACT and inspire in order to change the lives of people. Adding value to their lives is how you go really deep as a leader who serves.

Practical and Actionable:

Share what makes you UNIQUE. Play on your own thing. Find your ADVANTAGE. Everyone has something of that sort! Take the ten best customers you have and ask yourself how you can exceed expectations. This creates more customers.
